Even if we are in the middle of the rainy season here in Beautiful Kyushu Island, summer is knocking at the door. (well... it should be!). This is the time of the year when people, especially ladies, want to be in shape to enjoy the beach. I am contacted by hundreds of females who are interested in training and working out with me, but they get scared every time they see the videos I regularly upload on YouTube. They see brutal workouts, using free weights, barbells, kettlebells, sled draggings, prowler pushes... and they believe that if they use one of these tools, they are going to look bulky with tons of big muscles and that they are going to lose their femininity. Ladies, let me put this in very simple words: if you think that a woman who is lifting weights is going to look like a man, then let me assure you: this is a myth! Such a thing will never happen! If you are a woman and lifting a 1kg dumbbell is making you to add 10kg of muscle on your frame, then PLEEEEASE tell me your secret because I would like this to be that easy!! ![]() The main reason why females will never be as muscular as men is hormonal. The female body produces 10 times less testosterone than the male body. Testosterone which is a sex hormone, is responsible (on the anabolic level), for muscle mass, strength, and bone density. In other words, it is rather hard for a female to become muscular. However, the woman body is quite similar to the man body: they move the same, they perform the same movements, they react (almost) the same. A female should not train differently than a man as they should get the same benefits from resistance training: reducing body fat, reducing the risk of injury, improving posture and balance, getting rid of lower back pain or neck pain, boosting self-confidence... I've spend endless hours in different gyms all over the globe and I've seen the same lame workouts with almost no resistance performed by females: cable lat pull downs, triceps extensions, seated adduction-abduction for the legs and crunches. They usually finish their session on the treadmill. Can you picture yourself? I guess so. How much weight did you lose over the last fiew months? Not much I guess. When females come to me for some advices on how to lose weight, they are all surprised by my reply when I tell them they should lift heavy weights: "But I don't want to look like a guy!". So check out the video below: you will see women performing real workouts, using heavy weights and/or body weight exercises. How many of them look like a guy? None of them. Some of the women in this video are not even competitive athletes but they all feel the benefits of doing real workouts and well-designed strength programs. I have ALL my clients, of any age, performing the same kind of workouts: heavy box squats, heavy deadlifts, pull-ups, push-ups, bench variations... They all use free weights, kettlebells and bands... When we train in parks, they all perform sled draggings and prowler pushes. I train my clients just like I train my athletes because all I care about is RESULTS. And training like athletes brings you results and the results speak for themselves. These are the exercises that are going to help you out tremendously. All the ladies I train rock in the gym or in the park. They perform brutal workouts, feel better and it help them to get mentally strong on the field or at work. In the gym, any woman can look delicate and be strong as hell in the same time! Just check Nazo, from the Orange Kettlebell Club. She is a world famous kettlebell lifter. Take a look at her pictures and if you see a guy, then you probably need a new pair of glasses... or even a new pair of eyes! She says it herself: "a girl doesn't have to look like a bodybuilder to be strong". And believe me, Nazo is strong! ![]() ![]() So if you want real results, if you are tired of losing your time in the gym or spending your money to fix your low-back and neck problems, you may consider changing something in your training program and put more weight on the bar!
